MEETING
WHEN:
FRIDAY the 9th
7PM
WHERE:
Marshalltown Airport
PROGRAM:
Larry's
Mustang

WHAT'S FLYIN' THIS WAY !!!
If you have not seen Larry Lukehart's Mustang II, don't miss our April chapter meeting! Larry will give us the rundown on how his project is coming along. Be sure to bring your lawn chair and warm clothes, just in case Mom Nature decides winter isn't over.
We will also be discussing plans for our May meeting and activities. Seems like there is a bunch to do this year, if you are into aviating. (Which we are!!) Check out the schedule on page 2. Now that warmer weather is here, hope to see more of you!

WHAT FLEW BY LAST MONTH !!!
EAA's video summary of the Century of Flight activities was presented by Garry at the meeting last month. It detailed the endeavors to celebrate and fly the Wright Flyer on December 17th. It is interesting to note that there were many successful flights of EAA's Wright Flyer, although not on the 17th. The airplane has been donated to the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan.
A short sales video of the Early Bird Jenny was also viewed. The plans to build the all aluminum replica has been obtained by Corey.
See page 3 for more chapter member news.
Please note that some dates have been corrected on the Calendar.

Quote of the Month
"A common mistake people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools."---- Douglas Adams

Harrison Ford Named New EAA Young Eagles Chairman
Harrison Ford, best known as a renowned actor in more than three dozen films but also an extremely active pilot and member of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), was introduced March 6th as the new Chairman of the EAA Young Eagles Program, which has flown more than 1 million young people since 1992. During a welcoming program at Van Nuys, Calif., with EAA President Tom Poberezny, Ford accepted the chairmanship of the program, saying, “It’s daunting to step into General Yeager’s shoes, but aviation is about learning new skills and the satisfaction that comes with practicing them and doing better.”

MEMBER NEWS AND PROJECT REPORTS
Rocky's Pitts
Rocky Hilton has his J-5 back in the air.
Charles and Harry's Q2
Brakes are being installed.
Rays Bipe
Ray Robinson FINALLY completed all annuals, checks, inspections, and paperwork to get his Wiley Post Biplane legal and ready for testing. Then promptly went to the taxiway and had an incident. Splayed the landing gear and damaged the lower wings. BooHoo! Soooo....more fixin' to do. (But it's legal.)
Les Risius Is Lookin' Good
Or should that be 'seeing good'. Hehe. Les had very successful cataract surgery and now is seeing better than ever. Should come in 1st place in the Spot Landing Contests now, right Les?!?!
Tim is Just Looking
Tim Hommel has sold his Cessna 150 and is shopping for a 172 or 182.
Garry IS Flying More
Garry Brandenburg has already flown to Texas in the last month or so, and will be flying to Florida for the holiday. The 172 is in good health and is ready for a good workout. Watch them TFR's Garry!
FAA Temporarily Retracts Sport Pilot
Action Allows FAA to Answer OMB Questions
FAA Administrator Marion Blakey ordered an administrative move on Wednesday, March 24, that keeps the sport pilot/light-sport aircraft rule on track for final approval this spring. She withdrew the proposal from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to answer several final questions about the rulemaking package. That maneuver saves the rule from facing a potential significant delay in its approval. By bringing the proposal back to FAA, Blakey can address OMB’s questions in the most expeditious manner and return it quickly for final approval.
Daves Prop
Dave McCurry brought his homemade prop for everyone to drool over. It's made of a cherry tree that he cut and milled himself. He has installed and flown with it and is happy with the performance. At the same time, he decided to check out a little noise that has been bothering him in the VW engine. He found that the clearance on one piston was way outside of tolerance, so he is in the midst of rebuilding. Should be back together in time for the flying season.

Don Under the Hood
Don Lutes is doing some instrument work with his C-150 training.

Engine Finds Home
Rich Waugh, guest of Rocky's, has purchased the BetterHalf VW that Will Gethmann had. Rich is evaluating his options as to what he can put it on. I'm sure we can help him out.
